چکیده

We present time resolved J-band (1.025 – 1.340 μm) infrared spectra of the short-period dwarf novae (DNe) WZ Sge, VY Aqr and single spectra of the short-period DNe EF Peg and the novalike variable PX And. There is some evidence in the spectra of VY Aqr and EF Peg that we have detected the secondary star, both in the continuum slope and also through the possible presence of spectral features. The spectra of WZ Sge and PX And, on the other hand, show no evidence for the secondary star, with upper limits for it’s contribution to the J-band light of 10% and 20% respectively. The spectral type of the secondary in WZ Sge is constrained to be later than M7.5V. Using skew mapping we have been able to derive a value for the radial velocity semi-amplitude of the secondary star in VY Aqr of KR = 320± 70 kms−1, which in conjunction with KW from ? gives a mass ratio of q = 0.15± 0.04.

We present low resolution optical spectroscopy for six cataclysmic variable candidates and the old nova V888Cen. We confirm the classification as cataclysmic variable for LB 9963 and FQMon, while the other four candidates turn out to be different type of stars. We discuss the individual spectra and pay special attention to the mass transfer rate and disc temperature and density of the three cat...

We present spectroscopy of four cataclysmic variables. Using radial velocity measurements, we find orbital periods Porb for the first time. The stars and their periods are GY Hya, 0.347230(9) d; SDSS J204448-045929, 1.68(1) d; V392 Hya, 0.324952(5) d; and RX J1951.7+3716, 0.492(1) d. We also detect the spectra of the secondary stars, estimate their spectral types, and derive distances based on ...

On the new short orbital period cataclysmic variable H α 0242 - 2802 ⋆

We present results from our phase-resolved spectroscopy of the newly identified cataclysmic variable Hα0242-2802. Hα0242-2802 was identified from a deep UK Schmidt Hα-R band survey as a candidate cataclysmic variable. Although initial spectroscopy revealed an optical spectrum very similar to that of the famous short orbital period system WZ Sge, the analysis of our data shows that this is not t...

Optical Photometry and Spectroscopy of the Accretion - Powered Millisecond Pulsar HETE J 1900 . 1 – 2455

We present phase resolved optical photometry and spectroscopy of the accreting millisecond pulsar HETE J1900.1−2455. Our R-band light curves exhibit a sinusoidal modulation, at close to the orbital period, which we initially attributed to X-ray heating of the irradiated face of the secondary star. However, further analysis reveals that the source of the modulation is more likely due to superhum...
